About The Australian Jurist

The Australian Jurist (formerly The Western Australian Jurist) is the yearly academic publication of the Australian Legal Theory Association (‘ALTA’). Established in 2010 as the Western Australian Legal Theory Association, the Association and its law journal are currently based in Sydney, New South Wales, having moved from Western Australia and being reconstituted in 2026.

The Editor-in-Chief of The Australian Jurist is Dr Augusto Zimmermann, Foundation Dean and Professor of Law at Alphacrucis University College. Dr Zimmermann was Law Reform Commissioner in Western Australia, from 2012 to 2017, and Associate Dean for Research at Murdoch Law School. During his time at Murdoch he was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research in 2012. 

The editors of the Australian Jurist are legal academics Joshua Forrester, and Dr Alexander Hatzikalimnios.
