The battle between liberty and tyranny is an eternal struggle, fought across generations and within every human heart. As Joshua Forrester notes, tyranny will always seek to suppress freedom, demanding an unwavering defence. “Against Tyranny” examines tyranny from diverse angles, including government overreach during Covid-19 and the rise of woke ideology.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Augusto Zimmermann LLB (Hons.), LLM cum laude, PhD (Monash), DipEd, CIArb is Foundation Dean and Professor of Law at Alphacrucis University College, Sydney. He is also a former Law Reform Commissioner with the Law Reform Commission of Western Australia (2012-2017) and a former Associate Dean (Research) and Postgraduate Research Director at Murdoch University’s School of Law. He is also the Founder and President of the Western Australian Legal Theory Association (WALTA), a former Vice-President of the Australasian Society of Legal Philosophy (ASLP), an Elected Fellow at the International Academy for the Study of the Jurisprudence of the Family (IASJF), and Editor-in-Chief of the Western Australian Jurist law journal. A prolific writer and the author of numerous articles and academic books, Professor Zimmermann was awarded the 2012 Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research, and two School Dean’s Research Awards, in 2010 and 2011. Professor Zimmermann has been included, together with only twelve other Australian academics and policy experts, in ‘Policy Experts’ – the Heritage Foundation’s directory for locating knowledgeable authorities and leading policy institutes actively involved in a broad range of public policy issues, both in the United States and worldwide.
Joshua Forrester graduated with First Class Honours in Politics and International Studies from Murdoch University and First Class Honours in Law from the University of Western Australia. He has taught Constitutional Law, Legal Philosophy, Corporations Law, Property Law, and Trusts. In 2008, Joshua was awarded a Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation for Teaching at the University of Notre Dame Australia. He is the lead author of No Offence Intended: Why 18C is Wrong, which is listed as one of The Spectator’s best books of 2016. Joshua has also co-authored works that have appeared in The University of Western Australia Law Review and The Western Australian Jurist. A solely-authored chapter of his appears in Freedom of Religion or Belief: Creating the Constitutional Space for Fundamental Freedoms, published by Edward Elgar Publishing. Joshua’s shorter words have appeared in The Conversation, Policy, and Quadrant. He has appeared before the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights inquiry into s 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Human Rights Sub-Committee inquiry into freedom of religion and belief.
