This Monday, 18 August, Alphacrucis University College held the Sydney book launch of ‘Against Tyranny’ (Connor Court Publishing, The Western Australian Jurist, Vol.13, 2025), edited by Professor Augusto Zimmermann and Joshua Forrester.
The event was an undeniable success, bringing together many members of the legal profession, law academic community, and Sydney’s wider community.
Professor Zimmermann received many congratulatory messages and was honoured by the great attendance at the event. This included some of the finest legal and academic minds in New South Wales.

The first person to speak was Associate Professor David Perry, the Vice President and Provost of Alphacrucis University College. His brief remarks welcomed the audience and were followed by the speech of Professor Zimmerman about the book.
The main speaker of the evening was Emeritus Professor Rex Ahdar (University of Otago), a distinguished legal academic and expert in Law & Religion. Professor Ahdar discussed the book and explained the varied ways in which a tyrannical government can be implemented.
He also took the opportunity to explain how to fight tyranny through constitutional reform, personal resistance and even civil disobedience as a last resort.
Chairing the evening was Sophie York, barrister, lecturer in Jurisprudence and Legal Ethics in the Law Extension Committee (LEC) at Sydney University.
‘Against Tyranny’ examines tyranny from diverse angles, including government overreach during Covid-19 and the rise of ‘woke ideology’.
